Freshmen
Students must apply to the Center by March 1 of their eighth grade year. Applications are available by the end of November at participating middle schools. To be considered for the program, eighth graders must take the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) by the January test date of their eighth grade year, and complete the one year of algebra or the Connected Math curriculum by the end of their eighth grade year. The average SAT (critical reading and mathematics) score for the most recent ninth grade class was just over 1040. The minimum SAT (critical reading and mathemetics) score is 800 with 400 in mathematics. Admissions are then based on SAT scores as well as grades, teacher recommendations and other indicators.

Sophomores, Juniors, Seniors
A few slots may become available each year for upper class students to apply for admission to the Center. Applicants should submit their most recent SAT scores. Invitations to participate are issued by the local school district. Upper class students admitted must have satisfactorily completed coursework similar to that offered to the Center. Students will be selected based on their demonstrated ability to successfully move into our accelerated program.

Maintaining a seat
Once a student has been accepted to the Math & Science Center, it is not necessary to reapply each year. A student can expect to maintain his/her seat in the Center through satisfactory academic progress and good citizenship.
